Expanding the ecological tent with environmental data science

Water Cooler Chat

October 21, 2022

Broadening the definition of ecology to include fields such as data science, software engineering, and remote sensing, has the potential to attract a broader range of students, including those who may not prioritize field experiences or who may feel unsafe working in rural or urban field sites. How can we broaden opportunities for engaging with environmental data science for the next generation of ecologists? What career pathways are possible for ecologists interested in environmental data science? Grab your favorite beverage and join two early-career scholars and two mid-career researchers to learn about their journeys in environmental data science working with data from the National Ecological Observatory Network.

This Water Cooler Chat is produced in part by the LENS project, funded by the National Science Foundation. https://www.lensrcn.org/
