2022 Annual Report of the ESA

Pillars of a community of tens of thousands are our members, whose commitments to the Society and its growth tell important stories over the past few years. We always strive to be the organization that ecologists need us to be.

Our work to build a professional organization for all ecologists was buoyed as always by our members’ willingness to collectively open doors for students and scientists who face institutional and social barriers to participation.

Since its very beginning, ESA has been a driving force in publishing cutting-edge research in ecology and closely allied fields. But we're also big players in sharing science more broadly and leading in environmental education, too.

Our Public Affairs Office, Policy Section and many members who engage local, national and even international leaders work hard to advocate for policy and business decisions that are informed by good ecological science.

We hold and celebrate those among us who make powerful contributions not just to the science of ecology, but to ESA and our broader community of scientists. Our awardees, fellows, donors and fiscal sponsors reflect our shared commitment to ecology.

As a professional organization for ecologists, it’s core to ESA’s mission to support the professional development of its members and community. Our work spans the Annual Meeting, the certification program, internship and mentoring programs and more.
