PORTLAND, Ore. (August 4, 2023) – Leaders in U.S. environmental and science policy will review the emerging details of the first U.S. National Nature Assessment (NNA) with the ecological community. ESA President Sharon Collinge and Jane Lubchenco, Deputy Director for Climate and Environment at White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, will kick off the session by discussing the urgent need to understand the state of nature and climate in the U.S. The NNA aims to report on the condition and trends in nature within the United States, the ways nature affects the economy, public health, environmental justice, climate mitigation and adaptation and national security.

Panelists from the White House Office of Science, Technology and Policy will discuss the connections between the NNA and the Fifth National Climate Assessment, a congressionally mandated report that evaluates the current state of the science of global change and analyzes the effects of global change on regions and sectors of the United States.
