ESA-SEEDS 2020 BioBlitz

SEEDS is seeking teams from our SEEDS Campus Chapter network to participate in a nationally coordinated BioBlitz event! The #StayatHome #Backyard BioBlitz was started by the LIFE SEEDS Chapter at the University of Puerto Rico in Bayamon and organized the event with three other SEEDS Campus Chapters in Puerto Rico last month in response to the stay at home orders by the government. During the weeklong event, of ONLY identifying organisms found in their backyards, the four SEEDS Chapters were able to collect 8,748 observations and identify 1,502 unique species from 361 participants! The event was such a success that it was covered by news media outlets and we have decided to run this program at a national level.

Using the iNaturalist platform, we will be creating a ‘Collection Project’ for each  participating SEEDS Campus Chapter, these projects will then be part of an ‘Umbrella Project’ managed by ESA-SEEDS.  We can compare identifications by each project and give out amazing prizes for the top 3 SEEDS Chapters!
