Respect and Recognition

We hold and celebrate those among us who make powerful contributions not just to the science of ecology, but to ESA and our broader community of scientists.

In celebrating scientific work and contributions to ESA, we welcomed another excellent cohort of award winners, ESA Fellows and Early Career Fellows. Members made sure that their own peers were recognized, making 118 total nominations for awards and fellows in 2022.

Members also honored their colleagues in making nominations to leadership roles in ESA, from committee seats to elected positions on the Governing Board and Board of Professional Certification61 nominations made was the new record, though it was immediately broken the next year (a story best told in the 2023 annual report!). From those nominations, members then elected the slate of new leaders for the Society. You can learn more about the candidates for our 2022 election.

Financial support is vitally important, including from our exhibitors and sponsors, and we are pleased to recognize them here.

But maybe most of all, we must celebrate our donors — 2022 was our greatest-ever year for donations, with 694 donors contributing nearly $325,000 across all funds, helping us to reach our goal for the Gholz Endowment well ahead of schedule while also ensuring access to the Annual Meeting through the Opportunity Fund.
