pressESA welcomes the opportunity to support journalists interested in reporting on the research presented and discussed at our annual meeting.

Embargo Policy

Please note that ESA has changed its embargo policy on research presented at the ESA Annual Meeting.  In a break from past policy, presentations will not be embargoed. Members of the press are invited to cover research presented at the meeting as soon as abstracts become publically available online. Whenever possible, we advise speaking with authors in greater detail about their work since the abstracts alone are rarely sufficient for an article, and we are happy to assist in connecting reporters with presenters.  ESA press releases about the Annual Meeting are also no longer embargoed.

Press Credentials

Members of the press and institutional public information officers should contact ESA Communications Officer, Liza Lester at llester@esa.org or 202-833-8773, ext. 211 to register for the meeting.

ESA waives registration fees for reporters with a recognized press card. Registration is also waived for current members of the National Association of Science Writers, the Canadian Science Writers Association, the International Science Writers Association and the Society of Environmental Journalists.

Public information officers (PIOs) are also welcome to attend the meeting free of charge.  PIOs are encouraged to request copies of abstracts related to their institution and ESA is happy to distribute relevant institutional press releases in the press room. Please contact Liza Lester at llester@esa.org or 202-833-8773, ext. 211 for more information.

ESA does not waive registration for editors of peer-reviewed journals, ad sales representatives, publishers, program officers or marketing professionals. Scientists, advertising or marketing professionals and other non-press room participants must register through general registration and pay the registration fee.
Media attendees are responsible for any fees associated with workshops and fields trips they choose to attend. Please keep in mind that field trips and workshops fill up early.
