ESA Education Section logo design competition

Hello ESA colleagues,

The ESA Education Section is holding a logo design competition and we can’t wait to see your designs. Logos are important because they help to identify and distinguish an organization. Effective logos are recognizable, simple, memorable, timeless, and versatile (see 5 principles of good logo design here).

The winning logo will be used on our ESA Ed Section website, newsletters, and other “branding” for our section. The designer will be acknowledged with a small, one-time monetary award and their contribution to our section will be highlighted on our website. The judging panel will be the current ESA Education Section officers, and the winning logo will be announced no later than November 15, 2018.

Submissions must meet all criteria outlined below.

Deadline: Friday October 4 at 11:59 PM

How to submit: We are accepting digital submissions only. Submit to Jennifer Doherty at dohertyjh@nullgmail.com. This email will allow you to share via Google Drive if the file is too large to email.

Design criteria

  • The logo should be original.
  • The logo should symbolize and represent key characteristics of the ESA Education Section, such as the focus on ecology teaching at all levels and to all students.
  • The logo can include color, but must retain key design features when printed in black and white.
  • The logo should be submitted with a brief rationale for the design of the logo (50 to 100 words).

Technical details

  • Please submit a high-quality digital image, saved as a PNG, TIFF, or JPEG file. Designers should also be prepared to work with the ESA Ed Section officers to resize or reformat the image as necessary.
  • We reserve the right to edit the logo as necessary for the purposes of the section.
  • Winners agree to transfer image permissions to ESA for commercial, non-commercial and derivative rights.

The ESA Education section thanks Tessa Andrews and SABER for help with this announcement.

We look forward to your submissions,

Jennifer Doherty
