Education: Ph.D. Biological Science, Stanford University, 1999

Dr. Neff studies the cycling of carbon and nutrients in natural and human-impacted ecosystems.   He has extensive experience with the impacts of climate change and fire on northern ecosystems, and on grazing and atmospheric nitrogen deposition impacts on temperate soils. Dr. Neff currently works in Bureau of Land Management and National Park Service lands in the Southwestern US on land use and climate impacts on ecosystems.  He has served as an associate editor for EOS Transactions and the Journal of Geophysical Research and is active in both the Ecological Society of America and the American Geophysical Union.
