Jeff Herrick’s research and applied work is designed to increase the ability of managers and policymakers to reduce the risk of land degradation through an understanding of how soil, landscape and climate variability affect resilience and thresholds. He works in close collaboration with multiple government agencies including BLM, NRCS, USAID, USFS and the State Department, as well as the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD). His work includes development of protocols for inventory, assessment and monitoring at pasture plot to national scales, and basic research on the factors that control the resistance and resilience of arid and semi-arid ecosystems in the US, Latin America, Asia and Africa.
