Schulte-Moore is a landscape ecologist who studies the patterns, causes, consequences, and design of landscape and land-use change. Because humans are a major driver in landscape and land-use change, she uses “coupled human and natural systems” as a lens to understand and anticipate change. Several current research projects address ecological, technological, and social innovations that may enable agricultural landscapes to meet multifunctional societal goals. Other projects address the establishment of baselines for restoring ecological resilience and the impacts of restoration practices.
