Awards

The Open Science Section from the Ecological Society of America (ESA) welcomes submissions to four awards for attendees to the 2023 Annual Meeting of the ESA in Portland. Two awards are offered for in person participants to support their attendance ($500 each) and two grants are offered for remote participants to cover their registration fees. The awards are open for all, but we will give preference for early-career, which mostly lack high funding for their activities, and underrepresented groups in academia.

Questions to Alexandra Alexiev (alexieva@nulloregonstate.edu) and Bruno Soares (soares.e.bruno@nullgmail.com). Please, copy us both in the e-mail.

Eligibility

1. The awardee should be member of the Open Science session by the time of receiving the award during the meeting. Current members of the Open Science session at the time of application will be given preference for the grant, but everyone will be considered.

2. The awardee should be presenting a talk or poster during the meeting. The presentation should be directly or indirectly related to open science. If you are giving a presentation linked to open science, explain what you are presenting, the session, and why this is important to the ESA community. If you currently do not have a presentation in this line, there is a couple of options. First, you can pitch an idea for a talk to be included at the Decolonizing and Diversifying inspire session on how open science can advance more equitable research. Second, you can pitch a late-breaking poster. Third, you can pitch an idea for a talk before applying and we (the organizers) will try to find an invited session that your pitch fits in and try to include you. We ask you to make your best pitch in the form, and then we will directly contact you to make the necessary arrangements. Obs.: If you are proposing a new presentation at the meeting, you should still abide to one presentation per presenting author, with the exception if the one presentation is research-focused and the other is education/outreach focused or within an Inspire session.

3. Awardees will be asked to attend the Open Science session social meeting at the 2023 ESA and provide a photo and short biography to our website and social media.
