Diversity in Ecology: Then and Now
A Second Diversity Forum for All Interested in
Advancing Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Justice in the Ecological Sciences
ESA Annual Meeting 2019
Wednesday August 14, 2019
6:30 – 8:00 PM
It’s been 26 years since the first Women and Minorities in Ecology workshop was held by ESA!
The ESA Office of Education and Diversity Programs and the ESA SEEDS program is proud to host an OPEN discussion with ESA members about diversity related issues within ESA. This second Diversity Forum aims to highlight the history of diversity engagement and initiatives at ESA, celebrate the work accomplished by ESA members, and empower ESA members to become more involved in creating a more inclusive society and discipline, by encouraging positive conversations on diversity issues. Read ESA’s Diversity Statement here.
The Diversity Forum will feature
- A diverse panel of speakers
- Facilitated Table Topics
- A Diversity Fair with table top posters by ESA members (reserve your spot)
- A Social Mixer

The Diversity Fair welcomes all ESA members who wish to share information about their diversity and inclusion initiatives on any aspect of diversity as articulated in ESA’s Diversity Statement. ESA recognizes that there are many in our community who have been working toward greater diversity and inclusion in our field. The Diversity Forum will be an opportunity to celebrate and to exchange information about these initiatives.
Information shared might include program information, resources or tools, analyses or successful approaches to expand diversity and inclusion in your institution. If you are recruiting students or applicants for positions, please do consider sponsorship.
You will have half of a 6′ table of space where you can display literature or set up a table top display of information. This means you will be sharing space. You will need to provide your own table top display.
Participants should plan to be ready with your display at least 10 minutes prior to the event.
Please note that this is a ticketed event. Fee $10. There is no charge to share your information, but you MUST purchase a ticket to attend the event through the annual meeting registration. This fee cannot be waived due to high food costs. Kindly remember to add your Diversity Forum ticket in advance.
To participate, click on the Register button below. This registration is for attendees who have diversity initiatives, resources or tools they would like to share. Space is limited. Registration is available on a first come first served basis.
Please note, your registration here does not give you a ticket to the Forum. Please purchase a Diversity Forum ticket in advance through ESA Meeting Registration: https://esa.org/neworleans/registration-details/
We are looking for sponsors for this event. If you are part of a program or institution that would like to achieve diversity, equity and inclusion, this forum will be a great way to interact with a diverse group of ESA members and students.
