ESA Certified Ecologists

There is an increasing nationwide demand for certification credentials in the environmental arena. More immediate climate issues, land-use concerns, and resource management challenges are all growing in presence. As a response, the Ecological Society of America (ESA) established its Professional Certification program which helps to identify and acknowledge ecologists who meet stringent standards in both scientific education and real world experience.

Why Certify?

Certification allows ecologists, at every stage in their career and training, to add a credential to their resume which demonstrates their professional accomplishments within the field of ecology.

The ESA’s Certification Program recognizes ecologists who seek to incorporate ecological principles in decision-making, mainatain a minimum set of standards in education and experience, and adhere to high ethical standards. More ecologists are needed to ensure that ecological science is considered in environmental policy and decision making on the local, regional, national and international levels – and thus the ESA’s Certification Program is a means of identifying well-trained and reliable professional ecologists.

The ESA is now accepting applications from individuals wishing to become certified ecologists in 2018. Click here to learn more about requirements for your certification application. Did you know if you join or renew ESA you receive a discounted application fee? Learn more about ESA membership here.
