A Case of a Warbler Eating Berries

This is a photographic case study on the Yellow-rumped Warbler. This bird is unusual among warblers in its ability to eat Bayberry seeds. This ability minimizes it’s need to migrate affecting the way it interacts with its ecosystem.

SEEDS Update
1
SEEDS held its 2012 Fall Fieldtrip at Cedar Creek Ecosystems Science Reserve in Bethel, Minnesota from September 20-23! 24 student participants learned about prescribed burning regimes and biodiversity in the area. Also, they got to experience ongoing research projects on climate change and water quality issues.

College Biology Faculty Named Leadership Fellows
Through a joint effort by the NSF, HHMI and NIH, 40 Leadership Fellows are working on a yearlong project to determine positive change for undergraduate life science education. They are seeking contributions and ideas from the greater colleague community on their website linked in the title.

Help Students Build Explanations by Asking and Answering Deep Questions

A practice guide by the US Department of Education on how to encourage students to think deeper and prompt them to consider complex questions on course material. These types of activities are shown to improve comprehension and learning

 

The Nation’s Report Card: Science 2011

This report presents the national results of the 2011 National Assessment of Education Progress of a survey of 8th graders in science. The results from the 2011 survey are compared to the 2009 survey.
