Respect and Recognition

Our science — and therefore the Society — benefit from having a great core of supporters. Volunteer leaders and members who respect their peers and nominate them for honors and leadership roles are vital to our ability to serve the international community of ecologists.

Honorees by the Numbers

  • 116 nominations for ESA awards (meet the winners!)
  • 69 nominations for fellows/ECF
  • 66 members nominated for roles on the Governing Board, Board of Professional Certification and standing committees

ESA’s awards program recognizes great contributions to the science of ecology, ESA itself and to society at large. As always, our members stepped up to nominate their colleagues for these honors, and it was an honor to recognize them publicly. These awardees, plus Fellows and Early Career Fellows, stand out for their scientific work and other contributions that help us to become the organization we strive to be.

We also received high numbers of nominations for roles in our leadership, as members responded to ongoing changes in our governance — we enacted new bylaws in 2021 and continued to move forward with reforms meant to further democratize our decisonmaking — by putting forward themselves and their peers for important roles on the Governing Board, in the standing committees and on the Board of Professional Certification.
