Eco-Photo Festival Co-Director: Karen Alofs (UT-Austin)

ROLE:
As a co-director of the first eco-photo festival, I am working to organize a festival which will showcase and recognize many of the great ecology-related images created by students.

ABOUT ME & SCIENTIFIC INTERESTS:
I am a PhD candidate in Ecology Evolution and Behavior at the University of Texas at Austin. I graduated with a BA in Biology from the University of Chicago where I studied the role of prey and refuge in habitat selection a marine sculpin. After internships at Great Smoky Mountains National Park and the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area, I decided to start graduate school in plant ecology. My current research investigates how habitat fragmentation caused by woody plant encroachment affects native herbaceous plant diversity and the spread of an invasive grass.
