Public Affairs Officer: Sydney Glassman (UC Berkeley)

ROLE:
My role as Public Affairs officer is to increase the visibility and membership of the ESA Student Section. Please feel free to e-mail me if you are interested in organizing a regional mixer for ecologists in your area or have any ideas regarding how to raise the visibility or increase the membership of our section.

ABOUT ME & SCIENTIFIC INTERESTS:
I am a second year PhD student in the lab of Professor Tom Bruns at UC Berkeley. I am interested in the role of belowground fungal symbionts on aboveground plant community dynamics. I am particularly interested in the ecology of ectomycorrhizal fungi and their role in community dynamics and ecosystem processes.

I graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a B.A. in Biology in 2008. I spent the following year working as a lab technician for Prof. Sharon Strauss at UC Davis. After that, I got a masters in the lab of Prof. Brenda Casper at U Penn. I studied the context-dependency of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungal interactions along a gradient of heavy metal contamination.
