This year, the Southwestern Chapter has four travel awards ($500 each) available to students to support travel to the annual ESA Meeting in Pittsburgh. Awards this year will be made after the annual meeting. To apply for an award, students should submit their application (see below) by August 27, 2010. Successful applicants will be notified of their award by September 24, 2010.
Applications will be judged by SW Chapter elected officers. Criteria for the awards will be overall quality of the abstract and the degree to which the research reflects ecological issues relevant to the deserts of the American Southwest, although issues of general concern to the Western US will also be considered.

Applicants must be the presenting author of a paper or poster that was presented at the ESA meeting in Pittsburgh. Applicants must be enrolled as graduate or undergraduate students at the time of their application. Students, co-authors, employees, and relatives of current section officers (or judges of applications) are ineligible for this award.
