Vice Chair: Andréa Kuchy (University of Idaho alumna)

In 2011, I will begin my Ph.D. in human dimensions of wildlife (Forest Sciences) at Oregon State University. I completed my B.A. at Florida International University (Miami, FL) during which time the doors to science were opened to me during an REU (NSF Research Experience for Undergraduates), participating in climate change research in arctic Alaska. As an undergraduate studying environmental science and international relations, I also participated in a semester Wildlife Ecology and Conservation course in East Africa, and a study abroad in cultural studies in the West Indies. I completed my PGDipSc at the University of Witwatersrand (South Africa), where I researched large mammal behaviour. My M.S. degree from the University of Idaho examined wildfires and climate in the western U.S., primarily employing GIS. In addition to my work in ecology, it is through my extensive volunteer work that I am most personally rewarded. I dedicate the majority of my time to being an Oregon Firefighter/EMT-I, American Red Cross Disaster Services Team, and working with dogs at the local Humane Society as well as County Animal Services.
