ALL INFORMATION REQUESTED IS REQUIRED.

Applicants are responsible for asking two references to send letters to ESA on their behalf, responding to the following questions:

1. How do you know the student (academically, professionally, personally)?
2. How would you describe their abilities to carry out an independent ecological investigation?  Have you participated with or supervised this student in ecology research or activities? 
3. What kind of involvement does this student have in ecology clubs/activities/coursework/internships
4. Do you believe the student has a sincere interest in ecology or a related field and has plans to pursue future endeavors in ecology?
5. Do you feel this student has potential to be a leader in ecology?
6. Do you have any reservations about this student?  (maturity to handle being away, ability to get along with others, flexibility, adaptability)

Please provide us with the following information for your references:

The SEEDS Fellowship allows undergraduate students to complete an independent research project. The process of identifying the project in highly individualized, and includes program staff to select a research site and mentor, writing a research proposal and budget, conducting research in the field and/or lab, analyzing results and writing a paper, and presenting research at an ESA Annual Meeting. Each Fellow has a research mentor, a PhD ecologist from the ESA membership, to provide support throughout the project. The SEEDS Fellowship is essentially a mini thesis that prepares students for graduate school research.

In a minimum of 500 words, (1) describe why you want to participate in this fellowship, including how this experience would further your educational and career goals; (2) summarize your ecology experience thus far (SEEDS activities, coursework, research or work experience, etc.); (3) explain how your participation would meet the SEEDS mission; (4) describe your interest broadening your research experience beyond your own benefit (i.e., creative communication with communities, serving as a mentor, involvement in education outreach activities); and, (5) describe what makes you confident that you would be successful in completing the SEEDS fellowship.
