SEEDS Chapter Special Project Grant
Made possible by funding from the USDA Forest Service

The SEEDS Campus Ecology Chapter program will offer Special Project Grants of up to $1,000 for projects taking place in 2011 and 2012. Support is for Chapter activities and projects which further the mission of SEEDS – to diversify and advance the ecology profession through opportunities that stimulate and nurture the interest of underrepresented students to not only participate in ecology, but to lead. This funding is intended to support innovative Chapter projects that promote ecology to underrepresented students and communities through local conservation, research or education outreach activities. Amount: Up to $1,000 per chapter, four grants available. Joint Chapter applications can apply for up to $2,000.
Deadline: September 19, 2011
Eligibility: Chapters must be in good standing with a current Chapter report on file. SEEDS chapters that have not previously received a grant will be given priority.

 

Western Sustainable Communities Project Grant
Made possible by funding from the Packard Foundation

Funding of up to $5,000 is available for SEEDS Chapters in California and on the Colorado Plateau to carry out sustainability projects that: (1) build upon the strengths of the chapter and the community, (2) have a twin ecological-cultural conservation focus, and (3) engage new local and/or regional partners. Examples of projects may include expanding biodiversity estuarine or migratory species corridors along the coast of CA for ecotourism; creating a community or school food garden combined with fun activities to fight childhood obesity; or exploring food and water flowpaths and ways to reduce the watershed footprint. Recipients of the Western Sustainable Communities Project grant are ineligible to apply for other SEEDS grant opportunities.


Amount: Up to $5,000 per chapter, five grants available
Deadline: December 15, 2011
Eligibility: Chapters must be in good standing with a current Chapter report on file. SEEDS Chapters located in California or the Colorado Plateau are eligible to apply.

 

SEEDS Chapter Maintenance Grant:
Made possible by funding from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation

The SEEDS Campus Ecology Chapter program offers an annual Maintenance Grant to support Chapters. This grant is intended to ensure that each Chapter has funds to establish itself and/or sustain its presence on campus and beyond. Uses of Maintenance Grant funds include, but are not limited to: Promotional Materials, Institutional Fees and Fundraising Materials. The amount requested must be reflective of the amount and scope of materials. A Chapter may apply for only one Maintenance Grant during each academic year. Awards will be made on the basis of the strength of the application and the cost effectiveness of the proposed activities/materials. Find the application for the SEEDS Maintenance Grant here.

Application hard copies are not necessary and are discouraged. National Coordinated SEEDS BioBlitz Grant:
Made possible by funding from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation

Funding is available to support chapters that wish to participate in the National Coordinated SEEDS BioBlitz. Taking place during the week of Earth Day, SEEDS Chapters from across the nation conduct a rapid baseline assessment of the biodiversity in their local area. Uses of the BioBlitz funds include, but are not limited to: Promotional Materials, food and beverage for the event and other costs of hosting the event itself. The National Coordinated SEEDS BioBlitz aims to increase awareness in local communities of local biodiversity and the importance of environmental stewardship of our remaining wildlife and natural areas. SEEDS chapters are expected to lead in planning the event and in engaging students on campus, local ecologists and the surrounding community members in the citizen science project. Deadline: Application accepted on a rolling basis March 1st – April 15th
Eligibility: Chapters must be in good standing with a current Chapter report on file. SEEDS chapters that have not previously received a grant will be given priority.
