Plans for 2008-2009
- Assist in creation of on-campus Rain Garden
- Series of beach cleanups around island, some in conjunction with other clubs and schools
- Support at future International Year of the Reef events including community movie nights and snorkel clinics
- Partnering with University of the Virgin Islands Bookstore on campus wide “Go Green” initiative for dorms and classrooms to be more environmentally friendly
- Help maintain trail network at the UVI Wetlands Reserve
- Facilitating EMSC students in becoming SCUBA certified
- Organizing environmental speakers for on-campus presentations
- Plan island field excursions for club members
- Invite a series of speakers who are ecology and natural resources professionals in the Virgin Islands to describe their own career paths and future opportunities for today’s students
- Select an group ecology field research project and begin it
Activities of 2007-2008
- New SEEDS chapter in 2008
- Beach clean ups with local grade schools
- Trail clearing with NERM local high school Environmentally geared club
- Several Hikes (Caledonia Gut, Anally tide pools)
- Guided snorkel ours with members of east end marine park
- Turtle watch at sandy point with US Fish & Wildlife
- Trip to VI sustainable farm tour and learned about organic farming
- Snorkel clinics with members of IYOR
- Beach cleanups with members from IYOR
- Several Bake sales to raise moneys for club
- Earth day encouraged students to no use Styrofoam
- Planned and aided in movie nights with members of IYOR
- Planned Movie nights open to students at the University Such as Blue Planet and Planet Earth
