"Cultural Center Nature Park" Special Project |
This project planned, designed, and implemented a Nature Park on the Cultural Center grounds. Working wtih local and state NDSU extension agents, ND Forest Service, Three Affiliated Tribes Natural Resources, Three Affiliated Tribes Museum and Fort Berthold Community College students, staff and faculty built a nature park that attracts wildlife and contains native trees and grass species. The Nature Park helps community members reconnect to nature and also creates student and community member awareness of options of restoring native species and habitat. Project components included landscape design; cleaning and preparing the grounds; planting nearly 200 trees; constructing a bordered area for the rock garden; designing the sidewalk and stairways; and, planting a small traditional demonstration garden by local middle school students. |
