Upcoming Plans
We plan to find exciting and easier ways to recycle. Our recycling efforts will decrease campus waste which will be beneficial in preserving our environment for future generations. We will work with students, faculty and administrators in this effort.
Plans for 2008-2009
- We plan to find exciting and easier ways to recycle. Our recycling efforts will decrease campus waste which will be beneficial in preserving our environment for future generations. We will work with students, faculty and administrators in this effort. After the club is organized: Here are some of our ideas:
- We plan to work to educate our community of the importance of recycling.
- We are planning to implement activities related to recycling like drop-off sites or clean areas around our community.
- Visit local schools to educate students, faculty and administrators on recycling.
- Involve students in our club by making it exciting by devising projects like creating tools we could use in crushing plastic bottles and aluminum cans.
- Involve each student, to speak up on suggested activities relating to recycling or environmental issues.
- Work along with the maintenance department in finding ways to recycle and not add to the waste stream.
- Find a reliable person to transport recyclables 30 miles each week.
- Create a schedule for activities for the upcoming year on recycling.
Activities of 2007-2008
- The Diné Ecology Club (DECO Club) started in the summer of 2007. Due to lack of funding sources, the club ceased to continue. I am determined to restart the club by organizing some funding source to make it uncomplicated for students, faculty and administrators. The preexisting club will restart with some minor adjustments in funding, interests and organization. Some students attempted to start this club but, most of these students graduated and left to four-year institutions. Recycling is important and should continue with our college. I am willing to do what I can to assist in restarting the club. As an environmental science major, I want this club to provide opportunity for students, faculty and administrators to be involved. The college’s environmental footprint is an important start and we could slowly work with the surrounding community after the club is organized. This will have an impact on how students, faculty and administrators think about our environment and impact recycling efforts.
- Recycling bins ordered and distributed around campus
