"DU SEEDS" » New Orleans, Louisiana
![]() |
Please welcome one of the newest members of the SEEDS Family: Dillard University! The purpose of this chapter is to conduct programs and activities that will promote the awareness, interest, and importance of ecological studies on the Dillard University campus and in the greater New Orleans community, as well as support the start of a possible environmental science major on campus. Dillard university does not have an ecology or environmental sciences major and has in the past had limited opportunities for students to get involved in ecological research and other environmentally related activities. Our plan is to show the administration that students are interested in ecological studies and, as evidenced by our diverse membership, that ecological studies are of interest at Dillard University.

Plans for 2010-2011
- Our Chapter will host a DU-SEEDS week where we will encourage students to adopt an eco-friendly lifestyle, through forums, projects, and activities with the student body at Dillard and the community
- “Du Juniors.” This is an activity where high school as well as middle school students come to Dillard’s campus and are educated on what it means to be eco-friendly and engage them in “green” projects that promote the growth of a “green” campus and lifestyle.
- During Earth Day which is April 22, we will educate the students at Dillard of the many different ways they can “go green”.
- “The Little Sack Dress Contest”, during DU- SEEDS week individuals design dresses made out of potato sacks. This will show them an alternative way of “Going Green”.
- “DU-SEEDS fashion show green is not just the color of money.” On this day the contestants of the little sack dress will model their designs and their we will announce the winner of the contest.
- “Drive- in” The members of the club will design a drive in movie night where the students of Dillard University part their cars on campus and watch “Water World” a movie about the problems cause by individual who do not preserve water etc.
- “Color Me Green” is a fundraising activity where we sell snacks of the student’s choice and we dye the foods green with food coloring.
