Outreach programs of the SEEDS program:
- SEEDS Education and Outreach Initiative (SEOI)
The main purpose of SEOI is to try and reach out to local residents and students in the communities that host ESA meetings. An ESA meeting will bring together about 4,000 ecologists to share their science, but there is little connection to the local community. SEEDS (Strategies for Ecology Education, Diversity, and Sustainability) students recognized this gap and started putting together an outreach program two years ago, first in San Jose and then in Milwaukee. Albuquerque will be our third. This program is called the SEEDS Education and Outreach Initiative (SEOI).
- National Coordinated Collegiate BioBlitz (NCCB)
SEEDS student, Zachary Brym, of the University of Michigan's SEEDS Chapter started the National Coordinated Collegiate BioBlitz effort in hopes of coordinating campuses around the country to run their own BioBlitz. A local effort with national ties!
- National Phenology Network (NPN)
SEEDS 2008-09 Fellowship student, Serge Farinas, of Clayton State University's SEEDS Chapter started a dialogue with other SEEDS students, SEEDS staff, and the US National Phenology Network to get SEEDS chapters around the country involved in citizen science. Another local effort with national ties!
