- Air
Force Summer Faculty Fellowship Program (SFFP)
SFFP offers hands-on exposure to Air Force research challenges through eight
to twelve week research residencies at participating Air Force Research
Facilities for full-time science and engineering faculty at U.S. colleges
and universities. SFFP participants receive a weekly stipend; the weekly
stipend amount depends on the faculty status of the participant’s
application. Applications and Curriculum Vitae must be submitted
electronically by 11:59 p.m. Eastern Standard Time on January 7.
Reference forms must be submitted electronically by 11:59 p.m. Eastern
Standard Time on January 14.
- Directorate for Biological Sciences ( BIO ) Minority Postdoctoral Research Fellowships
The BIO and the Directorate for Social, Behavioral, and Economic Sciences (SBE) offer Minority Postdoctoral Research Fellowships and related supporting activities in an effort to increase the participation of underrepresented groups in selected areas of science in the U.S. These fellowships support training and research at the postdoctoral level in a host institution in the areas of biology and social, behavioral, and economic sciences supported by NSF. Supporting activities are travel grants to graduate students to visit prospective sponsors, starter research grants for Fellows, and an annual meeting of Fellows and their mentors. Full Proposal Deadline Date: December 5. Graduate Student Travel award requests must be received no later than 3 months prior to the proposed travel. Fellows may submit Research Starter Grant proposals at any time.

Fellowships
Underrepresented minorities and persons with disabilities are encouraged to
apply. Applications are invited from candidates in any physical, biological
or social science, any field of engineering, or any relevant disciplinary
field. Applicants must have a PhD, MD, DVM, or equivalent doctoral-level
degree by the application deadline (January 10) The prestigious fellowship
programs are designed to provide each qualified individual with a unique
public-policy learning experience and to bring technical backgrounds and
external perspectives to decision-making in the U.S. government. AAAS is
proud to sponsor these programs to facilitate science/government
interaction. Stipends begin at $62,000.

Environmental Leadership Program (ELP) Fellowship
The ELP Fellowship is an innovative national program designed to build the
leadership capacity of the environment field’s most promising emerging
practitioners. The three year fellowship offers unique networking
opportunities. Fellows receive a $2,000 participation stipend. The ELP
Fellowship provides an opportunity for talented individuals to have a unique
and substantial impact on the environmental movement through collaboration
with other emerging leaders. Applicants should be relatively new to the
environmental field with approximately three to ten years of professional or
post-undergraduate experience. Application deadline is October 1.
- Greater Research Opportunities ( GRO ) Program Fellowships
The U.S. EPA, as part of its GRO program, is offering Graduate Fellowships for master's and doctoral level students in environmentally related fields of study. The deadline for receipt of pre-applications is November 23. Subject to availability of funding, the Agency plans to award approximately 20 new fellowships by July 21, 2005 . Master's level students may receive support for a maximum of two years. Doctoral students may be supported for a maximum of three years with funding available, under certain circumstances, over a period of four years. The fellowship program provides up to $37,000 per year of support.
- Integrative
Graduate Education and Research Traineeship (IGERT) Program
IGERT fellows enter at, or near, the start of doctoral study and receive two
years funding (currently $30,000 per year), plus a fee waiver for the
duration of their fellowship. The Biological Invasions IGERT also supports
postdoctoral and undergraduate fellows, internships, and collaborative
projects. Students in Biological Invasions IGERT program complete and
interdisciplinary program that draws on research in ecology, evolution,
economics, law, and social sciences, and that enables students to comprehend
the multifaceted problem of biological invasions in a broad and deep way.
Interested students should apply to both the IGERT and to an appropriate
program at UC Davis. Note: most graduate deadlines are early December.
- NASA
Summer Faculty Research Opportunities (NSFRO)
The intent of NSFRO is to provide faculty an opportunity to engage in
research at one of the participating NASA Centers or the Jet Propulsion
Laboratory (JPL). Fellowships are awarded to qualified faculty members in
science, technology, engineering, or math (STEM) disciplines faculty members
for work on collaborative research projects of mutual interest to the fellow
and the NASA center or JPL. Each fellow will work with a colleague from the
NASA Center or JPL. Application deadline February.

Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) Postdoctoral Fellowship Program
NRL sponsors a Postdoctoral Fellowship Program at a number of Naval R D
centers and laboratories. The program is designed to significantly increase
the involvement of creative and highly trained scientists and engineers from
academia and industry to scientific and technical areas of interest and
relevance to the Navy. The selected participants will work in a unique Navy
laboratory environment, while interacting with senior laboratory scientists
and engineers.

Office of Naval Research (ONR) Summer Faculty Research Program and
Sabbatical Leave Program
ONR sponsors the Summer Faculty Research Program and the Sabbatical Leave
Program for U.S. citizens and legal permanent residents who hold teaching or
research appointments at U.S. colleges and universities. The Summer Faculty
Research Program is a 10-week program, beginning in May 2005. There are
three levels of appointment: Summer Faculty Fellow, Senior Summer Faculty
Fellow, and Distinguished Summer Faculty Fellow. Stipends range from $1,400
to $1,900 per week for the summer program. Applications for the ONR Summer
Faculty Research Program are due by December 1. Applications for the
Sabbatical Leave Program should be submitted six months prior to the start
of the proposed sabbatical..
