The Stanford chapter of SEEDS is a pre-professional group aimed at increasing minority representation in the fields of ecology and environmental sciences. To achieve this mission, the Stanford chapter of SEEDS will provide community outreach and informational meetings that will present the exciting opportunities available in the environmental arena through affiliation with the Ecological Society of America. |
Activities
- Outreach on campus to promote diversity and participation in the environmental sciences, at college level and beyond.
- Partnering with other science programs on campus.
- Presentations for Stanford communities about the educational and career opportunities available through SEEDS.
- Presentations by SEEDS students for local communities to stress the importance of ecological education.
- Teaching and leadership opportunities for Stanford and local schools. SEEDS will give Stanford students the opportunity to experience the power of teaching in the field through ongoing community service projects with Jasper Ridge Biological Preserve, including working with Redwood High School, a continuation school in the Sequoia school district, Redwood City, CA and with Eastside School, in East Palo Alto, CA.
