The purpose of the New College of Florida Ecology Chapter is to provide a gateway to information about ecology within and outside New College of Florida, to create educational opportunities, to participate with other local groups and to foster interaction between New College of Florida students and ecologists outside through community outreach. |
Activities
- Environmental Studies brown bag luncheons - a small lecture series run primarily by students who have done independent research
- Beach Cleanups
- Outreach programs such as the SOS (Science Outreach for Students) program
- Community service:
-Nature Tours/Walks through local habitats (Red Bug Slough, Carlson Reserve, and Myakka River State Park to name a few)
-Volunteering at Gwiz, a hands-on science museum
-Judging science fairs at the local school districts - Duke TIP (Talent Identification Program) Weekend
- Earth Day Celebration Fair
- Volunteering at Mote Marine Laboratory
- Active participation in CIEL (Consortium for Innovative Environments in Learning)
- Providing counseling with undergraduate and graduate studies in environmental fields/career development
- Providing seminars on grant writing
