Description:
Recent
advances have made a wide array of statistical innovations available to
ecologists. Many of these new techniques provide practical solutions for the
types of data and questions of interest to ecologists, but they have not come
into common use because they are often not covered in graduate statistics
courses. This workshop is an opportunity for the authors of new statistical
approaches to meet with the researchers who can use the techniques. This all-day
workshop offers two sessions. The first will cover topics in numerical ecology
(presented by Drs. Daniel Borcard and Pierre Legendre). The second will
introduce hierarchical bayes analysis (presented by Dr. Subhash Lele). In each
workshop session, the statistical experts will provide an overview to some
advanced statistical techniques, including walk-through analysis of real data
sets and discussion of practical issues such as available software and
appropriate sampling design. Participants are asked (if possible) to bring
laptops to the workshop along with software and handouts available at the
following website: http://www.seedwiki.com/wiki/montreal_workshop/
