Description:  The Environmental Justice (EJ) Working Group promotes education and research initiatives to advance the engagement of ecologists in addressing environmental injustice. Active in the ESA Education section since 2000, we have coordinated EJ activities at each ESA Annual Meeting. The ESA Ecological Visions and Women and Minorities in Ecology Report (WAMIE II) call for actions directly related to an EJ agenda, such as: engagement in community outreach and research; partnerships with other projects and organizations engaged in dimensions of EJ research, education, and outreach; the ongoing call to increase our diversity; and increasing societal engagement in policy development and implementation. We will present the draft proposal of the longer-term vision for the EJ work of ESA that we are developing and invite your feedback. Elements to be discussed include the following:  (1) long-term planning for growth in advancing EJ; (2) planning ESA Annual Meeting activities and ongoing scholarly activities to advance EJ; (3) identifying partnership organizations in environmental education and justice and developing these partnerships for joint outreach to impact policy and broader societal engagement; (4) partnering with ESA projects with related goals; (5) developing activities that link EJ concerns and initiatives to the broader community of ecologists; (6) developing activities (e.g., a research coordination network) that link ecologists to the broader EJ community; and (7) securing funds to support the EJ-related concerns and directions raised by WAMIE II and Ecological Visions.
