Description:
The goal
of this workshop is to bring together current and potential users of advanced
cyberinfrastructure technology. We will present and discuss the impact of these
new collaborative technologies on ecological data acquisition, information
management, and synthesis. The technical advances in cyberinfrastructure have
changed the way ecological research is conducted at local, regional, and global
scales. The advances by the projects represented in this workshop lead the way
in real-time monitoring, analysis, and synthesis of global ecological research
within a collaborative framework. These advances permit comparisons to be made
across any imaginable scale of observation. This workshop will include specific
examples of ongoing projects, which start from measurements in the field to
integrative applications in global GRID computing environments. Interactive
presentations will focus on details of how to collect ecological field data over
large spatial scales, how to bridge difficulties in data acquisition, and how to
synthesize these data into information and knowledge.
