WK-1:
Biophysical ecology at leaf and canopy scales: Measurement of water
status, stomatal conductance, and leaf area index
Saturday, August 6, 8 AM - 5
PM, Meeting Room 513a, Level 5, Palais des congrès de
Montréal
Fee:
$50 US Dollars per person – includes continental breakfast, breaks,
lunch, and handouts.
Minimum:

Maximum: 30
Organizers:

Description:
Tools for
measuring and understanding plant water relations and energy capture by plant
canopies continue to be an important part of an ecologist’s arsenal. The goals
of this workshop are to review modern theories and models of these processes, to
describe current methods for making measurements, and to allow participants to
do simple experiments with several of the available instruments and to analyze
the results of the measurements. A full-day workshop is offered with the morning
session focusing on leaf-scale processes and the afternoon on canopy-scale
processes. The leaf-scale measurement focus will be on understanding and
measuring leaf and soil water potential and stomatal conductance. The
canopy-scale focus will be on measuring PAR interception and leaf area index in
dense and sparse canopies, and on predicting evapotranspiration.
