OOS-31: Structure
and function of tropical rainforest canopies
Wednesday,
August 10, 8 AM - 11:30 AM, Meeting Rooms 516a and 516b, Level 5, Palais
des congrès de Montréal
Organizers:
Michael Ryan (mgryan@fs.fed.us), David
Clark
Description: Tropical
rain forests contribute substantially to the global carbon cycle, and their
productivity and carbon storage are controlled by the arrangement and physiology
of the leaves in the canopy. Until recently, measurements of canopy structure
and function have been very sparse. Recent advances in accessing tropical rain
forest canopies, as well as detailed structural information over wide areas have
allowed researchers to begin to assemble a better picture of tropical rain
forest canopies. This session aims to strengthen ties among researchers engaged
in the study of the structure and function of tropical rain forest canopies and
encourage further research and synthesis.
