Description:
The Parc de la Rivière-des-Mille-Îles
covers many islands of high botanical and ecological interest and is the best
preserved riparian ecosystem in the Montréal region. In order to appreciate
this northern “bayou”, participants will be navigating in large canoes
called “rabaska”, which can hold up to 12 people. These canoes are very
stable and do not require any experience as long as one can handle a paddle.
During the field trip, the group will reach a large marsh where a platform will
allow participants to have a good view of the surrounding habitats. Along the
way, the group will stop at the most interesting island of the river in terms of
its ecological diversity. Rare plant species, mature forest communities, and
riparian communities will be observed.
Equipment
and Attire: Participants
should bring sun block and insect repellent.
Note: Because there are no skill requirements, children may
participate, but must be accompanied by an adult.
