8 PM - 10 PM, Meeting Rooms 513c-d, Level 5, Palais des congrès de Montréal
Organizers: Rachel
Schiflett, Paul Cutler
Description:
Planning for an International Polar Year (IPY) in 2007-2008 is well
underway, with more than 25 nations now committed to participating. IPY
2007-2008 is envisioned to be an intense, coordinated field campaign addressing
a variety of issues at both poles and their global connections. This IPY will be
truly multidisciplinary and planners are actively encouraging scientists from
many fields to conduct internationally coordinated activities focused on
exploring scientific frontiers, understanding environmental change in the polar
regions, developing enabling technologies, and fostering public outreach and
education. This Town Meeting will update the ecological science community on
current IPY plans, provide a forum for questions and discussion, and outline how
scientists can become more involved in IPY activities.
