Science and Environmental Policy
Infusing current ecological science into environmental decision-making
ESA's Public Affairs Office serves as an important link between the federal government and the ecological community. Teams of experts work together to provide ecological expertise to policy makers when they need it. PAO works to give ecological science a voice on Capitol Hill and in federal agencies by organizing the following environmental policy activities for policy makers:
- Hill meetings with congressional delegations to convey issues of concern to the ecological community
- Briefings for Hill staff on current environmental topics to inform policy discussions with ecological science
- ESA position statements, papers, and letters which reflect membership views on science and environmental policy issues—all available here
- Collaborations with other scientific professional coalitions to monitor and work jointly on environmental issues
- Website resources, including press releases, fact sheets, Issues in Ecology, and position statements
