Education: Ph.D. Vertebrate Zoology, Cornell University, 1972

Dr. Temple conducts research on a wide variety of topics related to biodiversity with a goal of understanding threats to wildlife and ways in which to restore the security and functionality of species populations and ecological communities.  Much of his research focuses on bird ecology, particularly on assessing the impacts of humans, land use, and habitat fragmentation on endangered species.  Dr. Temple has served as President of the Society for Conservation Biology and is an elected fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the American Ornithologists’ Union.
