Current position: Associate Professor of Biology and Director of the Graduate Program in Sustainable Development and Conservation Biology, University of Maryland, College Park. 

In addition to her work at the University of Maryland, Lips is a Research Associate at the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute and at the US Museum of Natural History. She has published more than 70 peer-reviewed papers in journals such as Science, PNAS, PLOS Biology, and Ecology Letters. Lips co-organized an international network of researchers working in Latin America, and has offered many training courses in amphibian ecology and biodiversity sampling.  Lips’ research is focused on how global change – wildlife disease, climate change, land use – affects amphibian biodiversity in Latin America and the Appalachian Mountains.
