Dr. Coleman’s interest in linking ecology and policy was inspired by her work on the ecological consequences of commercial and recreational fishing on fish populations.  She is also interested in the influence of watersheds in offshore marine environments and is working to ensure that relevant ecological information is made readily available to policy makers charged with the management of marine resources.  She has served on several scientific advisory committees related to marine conservation, including the National Marine Fisheries Service Ecosystem Management Council, the International Advisory Committee on Marine Reserves, the National Research Council, and an appointment to the Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council.
