Education: Ph.D. University of Alberta, 1987

Dr. Padilla studies a range of topics in functional biology, ecology, morphology and life histories of marine invertebrates and plants including marine protected areas, conservation, restoration ecology, community ecology and recently, on the impacts of harmful algae on shellfish.  She also studies invasion biology in both marine and freshwater systems, especially the sources, spread, and impacts invaders.  She collaborates with international teams of scientists from eastern and western Europe to develop methods to predict the characteristics of successful invaders.
