Education: Ph.D. University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill, 1980

Dr. Kneib’s expertise lies in understanding and quantifying ecological functions of estuarine wetlands, particularly as these relate to coastal fisheries.  Most recently, his research has focused on species’ use of critical habitats and how landscape structure influences survival, growth, reproduction, gene expression, and habitat use.  He has served on review and technical panels for numerous government and private programs including the U.S. EPA, NOAA Sea Grant, FL Keys National Marine Sanctuary, CALFED, Center for a Sustainable Coast, and the Estuary Enhancement Program of Public Service Enterprise Group. Dr. Kneib has testified as an expert witness in several legal proceedings involving buffer zones and sustainable use of coastal resources, operates a part-time ecological consulting service, and is certified by the Ecological Society of America as a Senior Ecologist.
