Dr. Mack’s area of expertise lies in community ecology, especially plant communities subjected to biological invasions. He approaches invasion biology from multiple dimensions, including genetics and demography, interactions between native and exotic species, and patterns of invasive spread across landscapes. His work seeks to identify risk factors for invasion, and ultimately predict and prevent future invasions. Dr. Mack served as Chair for the National Research Council’s Committee for “Predicting the Invasive Potential of Non-indigenous Plants and Plant Pests in the United States.” He is currently a member of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature specialist group on invasive species, the Scientific Committee for Problems in the Environment Executive Committee, and a member of the Board for the Global Invasive Species Programme.
