ESA’s Public Affairs Office serves as a vital communication link between federal policymakers and the ecological community. The Society encourages its members to take advantage of its public affairs services for members:
- Students -- Apply for ESA’s Graduate Student Policy Award
- Contact PAO to set up Hill meetings with your congressional delegation to convey your research or issues of concern
- Subscribe to ESA’s bi-weekly Policy News which provide short, relevant environmental and science policy updates to subscribers
- Register for ESA’s interactive policy and communications workshops at annual meetings
- Action Alerts notify ecological scientists about key opportunities to provide comments on pending legislation or proposed regulatory changes
- Submit your favorite ecological metaphor, analogy, maxim, anecdote, or simile (MAMAS) to our database (contact PAO staff)
- Brush up on the federal budget process, and tips for communicating with Members of Congress
- Have you been in the news? Gain greater exposure by sending a link to your story to ESA’s site
- PAO assists ESA members who wish to write letters to Congress or opinion editorials to news outlets
