SUNDAY APRIL 8 – Field Trip
PDF version: MAESA 2018 Field Trip Itinerary
Please note: pre-registration is required because space is limited.
Both Liberty State Park (LSP) and the Meadowlands offer a chance to explore the ecology unique to each site and learn about how the natural and anthropogenic history shaped the environment we see today. These places were selected not only because of their uniqueness but because of the wide range of research that has been conducted over the years at both parks. At LSP, we will explore the interior of the park and learn about the current research projects as well as the ecology of a brownfield. At the Meadowlands, we will have the opportunity to explore a heavily impacted tidal marsh. Both locations have views of the New York City skyline and will have opportunities for birding for those interested.
The field trip will occur rain or shine (or snow?) and we will be walking around outside. Some parts of Liberty State Park may be muddy and the site’s interior does have a substantial tick population during the warmer months, so please dress accordingly.
We encourage you to bring your own reusable water bottles. Restroom facilities and water fountains are available at both parks.
For lunch, you may pack your own or purchase food when we stop at a Wawa convenience store in Harrison. We will eat lunch at DeKorte park either picnic style or in the vans if it is raining.
