The Mexico Chapter of the Ecological Society of America was established on 6 August 2003 at the 88th ESA Annual Meeting held in Savannah, Georgia, USA.
During such a meeting, the following objectives were established for the Chapter, complementing the general objective established in the bylaws: (a) The Mexico Chapter will serve as a conduit with the ESA Governing Board and Council; (b) It will promote that Mexican students assist to the ESA Annual Meetings; (c) It will encourage the participation of Mexicans within ESA activities; (d) It will promote activities along the ESA mission, such as the development of ecology as a science, education and dissemination of ecological knowledge; (e) It will serve as a link between ESA and societies related to ecology in Mexico; (f) It will enhance the visibility of research in Mexico and multi-lateral collaboration opportunities.
