Travel Awards for Latin American Students The Ecological Society of America (ESA) announces the availability of travel awards, sponsored by the Ford Foundation, for graduate students from Latin American countries to participate in the international conference Ecology in an Era of Globalization: Challenges and Opportunities for Environmental Scientists in the Americas , January 8 - 12, 2006, in Merida , Mexico . This conference is designed to develop strategies to increase international access to ecological knowledge and to increase collaboration among environmental scientists on global environmental issues with particular relevance to the Americas . (see www.esa.org/mexico for more information.) Students from Mexico are eligible for an award of $500 US. To accommodate differences in travel costs, students from all other Latin American countries are eligible for an award of $1,000 US. Approximately 100 awards will be available and are expected to be used to support costs of travel, registration, lodging, and meals.
