Ecology in an Era of Globalization will be held at
the
Fiesta Americana hotel in Merida, Yucatan, Mexico. Founded on the site
of the Mayan city of T´hó in 1542, Merida, the capital city of Yucatan, is
located in the northeast of the Yucatan peninsula. To the north of Merida
lies the Gulf of Mexico, to the west and southwest the state of Campeche, to
the east and southeast the state of Quintana Roo. Nearby attractions include
Mayan ruins such as Chichen Itza, the beaches of the Gulf of Mexico, and the
flamingo colonies of Celestun.
The Fiesta Americana is located on the Paseo de Montejo, within walking
distance of shopping areas, museums, and other hotels. In addition to a block of
sleeping rooms at the Fiesta Americana, additional rooms are being reserved for
conference participants in several nearby hotels offering a range of rates.
