February payroll employment rises (+236,000); unemployment rate edges down (7.7%)

Total nonfarm payroll employment increased by 236,000 in February, and the unemployment rate edged down to 7.7 percent. Employment increased in professional and business services, construction, and health care.

Productivity declines 1.9% in 4th quarter 2012 (annual rate); unit labor costs rise 4.6%

Productivity decreased 1.9 percent in the nonfarm business sector in the fourth quarter of 2012; unit labor costs increased 4.6 percent (seasonally adjusted annual rates). In manufacturing, productivity increased 2.1 percent and unit labor costs decreased 1.9 percent.
