While eradicating parasites has long been a goal of human societies, the loss of these organisms from ecological communities could have unexpected consequences. In the October issue of Frontiers, Wood and Johnson discuss the potential implications of “a world without parasites”, highlighting the many roles that parasitic organisms play in ecosystems.
